Community University Research Exchange (McGill) Program Coordinator
The Community-University Research Exchange (CURE) is a database by which students can integrate their academic research with the work of local movements and activist organizations. Through the administrative infrastructures already in place at McGill and Concordia University, students may complete a CURE research project as an independent study course, internship, or thesis advised by a departmental professor, or as a term project for an upper-level class. By connecting students to non-profit community groups with limited resources, we hope to encourage and support academic research that is socially relevant.
Responsibilities:
To co-ordinate the overall activities of the QPIRG-McGill’s portion of the CURE Program:
Outreach to students (McGill)
• Class presentations
• Table
• Get the project link onto appropriate university websites, etc.
• Support students in negotiating the bureaucracy of the university and in working with community groups
• Provide support to students to use the project proposals to both meet the needs of the community groups and to meet their class requirements.
Outreach to university administration and faculty
• Research methods classes
• Faculty heads
• Classes with specific community focus
• Find classes in all faculties
Maintain and update projects
• Make sure website is updated with new project proposals
• Put completed projects on the website.
• Outreach to Community and Activist groups to solicit projects
Coordination with QPIRGs
• Communicate with staff and board of both PIRGS about how the project is developing
• Work collaboratively with staff and board of both PIRGS to set short and long-term goals for the project
• Work in tandem with QPIRG Concordia project coordinator if there is one.
Applicants Should Have:
• Strong organizational skills;
• Excellent interpersonal skills;
• Knowledge of social justice issues
• Good research and data management skills.
• Ability to work independently and with groups
• Knowledge of campus environment, including campus organizations and departments
• Ability to take initiative and work independently
• Creative problem-solving skills
• Skills in poster/flyer design and printing
• Knowledge of local social justice milieu
• written and spoken french is an asset
Details:
$9/ hr., 15 hours/ wk (Fall and Winter semesters)
