* Screening of footage from the short film The Good Son, about the Jaballah family, and the documentary-in-progress The Secret Trial 5.

* Adil Charkaoui. Charkaoui won his case against a security certificate in 2009; in the process, he brought a case to the Supreme Court that saw the entire legislation struck down as unconstitutional.

* Discussion on crowd-funding and documentary film-making with Amar Wala and Noah Bingham, producers of The Secret Trial 5, a documentary-in-progress about security certificates; and Amy Miller, producer of Myths for Profit and the forthcoming Carbon Rush.

Come out to a fundraising event for The Secret Trial 5, a new crowd funded documentary, currently in production, about security certificates. The evening will feature a lively panel discussion about crowdfunding and social justice filmmaking. You will also see footage from The Secret Trial 5 and hear updates on the “Secret Trial 5″ (five men arrested under security certificates) themselves.

Crowdfunding is a collective funding model where people network and pool their money together to support a worthwhile project. For The Secret Trial 5, the crowd-funding model simultaneously serves to raise awareness. The Secret Trial 5 examines the human impact of the global “War on Terror” in Canada. The filmmakers examine the application of security certificates, legislation that allows for people to be detained indefinitely, with no charges, based on secret evidence that is never disclosed.

The talented filmmakers of The Secret Trial 5 are relying on community support or “the crowd” to complete this film. Please come out to learn more about the project and help make this film!
