Detailed Venue Accessibility Information

Rad Frosh volunteers are conducting detailed accessibility audits of all the venues being used for Rad Frosh 2016. Below, you can read accessibility summaries of each venue we’re using this year. SSMU Building (3480 McTavish Street):

  • Construction on McTavish street makes the main entrance to SSMU inaccessible to wheelchair users; those using wheelchairs should enter via the alley between Peel and McTavish streets, where they can enter the SSMU building via the side entrance to the basement level (the entrance closest to Gerts Bar).
  • Step-free access to venue and washrooms.
  • Single-stall gender neutral washrooms available on 4th floor
  • Elevators and stairs both available to access all floors
  • Fluorescent lighting; however, non-fluorescent lighting will be used in all rooms for Rad Frosh events
  • Building is not scent-free; however, all Rad Frosh events have scent-free policies

 

Parc Mont-Royal

  • Wheelchair accessible location.
  • Bathrooms:
    • Gendered, wheelchair-accessible washrooms located in the chalet du parc Jeanne-Mance, which is on Rachel along Avenue du Parc. These are open until 11:00 pm.
    • A single-stall, wheelchair-accessible washroom is located inside the gas station dépanneur found at the corner of Mont-Royal and Avenue du Parc; it is open 24 hours.
  • Location is outdoors in a grassy park; low sun is expected, as this is an evening activity
  • This is a whole-group activity, with all frosh participants and facilitators together
  • Food and non-alcoholic drinks provided
  • This is a drinking-optional event.
  • Closest bus route: 80 along Avenue du Parc (connects to Parc and Place-des-Arts metro stations)
  • Participants will walk with Rad Frosh facilitators from McGill campus to the park, unless they choose to make their way to the park separately. This is a 25-minute walk, including a gradual uphill incline from Milton to Rachel.

 

Players’ Theatre (2nd floor, 3480 McTavish Street)

    • Wheelchair accessible building, theatre, and stage.
  • Bathrooms:
    • Wheelchair-accessible bathrooms on basement, 1st, and 4th floors
    • Single-stall, gender-neutral bathrooms on 4th floor
    • Gendered multiple-stall bathrooms on basement, 1st, and 3rd floors
  • Lighting: SSMU Building contains some fluorescent lighting; however, Players’ Theatre will be set up with non-fluorescent lighting.
  • Performance may include loud music.
  • Workshop will be a smaller-group setting; the show will be a whole-group event, with all frosh participants and facilitators together.
  • Food and non-alcoholic drinks provided.
  • Both the workshop and drag & burlesque show are non-drinking ( dry ) events.
  • Quiet room will be available with active listeners, fidget toys, and quiet solo activities on the 4th floor during the drag & burlesque show.

 

Open Mic Night – MAI Café (3680 rue Jeanne-Mance)

  • Step-free wheelchair-accessible access to venue
  • Bathrooms: Wheelchair-accessible, gender neutral bathrooms in the MAI Café
  • Lighting: To be confirmed.
  • Noise: This event will have acoustic performances with microphones and speakers, but no live bands or very loud music or noise.
  • Crowding: This event is taking place at the same time as the Benefit Concert; there will likely be a medium-sized crowd of around 40 – 90 participants and facilitators, but this will be a much quieter and smaller event than the Benefit Concert.
  • Alcohol: This is a non-drinking ( dry ) event.
  • Public transit: Closest to 80 and 55 bus lines. Walking distance from on-campus residences.

 

Benefit Concert – Bar Le Ritz PDB (179 rue Jean Talon West)

  • Step-free access to venue and washrooms
  • Washrooms: multiple-stall, gender-neutral
  • Event will likely be crowded
  • Loud music (live band performances) anticipated; earplugs will be available
  • Harm Reduction Squad will be present
  • Event takes place in a bar, with alcohol available for purchase
  • Closest metro stations: De Castelnau, Parc
  • Closest bus routes: 80 and 55 bus lines
  • Closest accessible metro station: Jean-Talon
  • Cost: $15 pay-what-you-can donation (no one turned away for lack of funds)

 

Concert After Party – Brasserie Beaubien (73 rue Beaubien East)

  • Step-free access to venue (temporary ramp to be installed)
  • Washrooms: Not wheelchair accessible. Will be gender neutral for event.
  • Event will likely be crowded
  • Loud music (live DJs) anticipated; earplugs will be available
  • Harm Reduction Squad will be present
  • Event takes place in a bar, with alcohol available for purchase
  • Closest metro station: Beaubien
  • Closest bus routes: 80, 55, 30 bus lines

 

Closing BBQ & Film Screening – Parc Lafontaine

  • Park setting has step-free access
  • Washrooms:

Basement of Espace La Fontaine restaurant – in the middle of the park pond Open until 9:00 pm – Multiple stall, gendered washrooms

La Banquise restaurant – 994 Rue Rachel Est, on Rachel & Avenue du Parc La Fontaine Open 24 hours – 3 single-stall gender neutral bathrooms

– 1 stall has grab rails; restaurant is up 2 steps.

  • Event takes place on grass outside, near trees. Low sun anticipated due to evening start time.
  • Music: to be played via small portable speakers; low volume. Film screening may have loud sounds / high volume. Earplugs will be available.
  • Dry event
  • Closest metro station: Sherbrooke, Mont-Royal, Papineau
  • Closest bus route: 24 along Sherbrooke Street

 

Closing Loft Party – Studio 303 and Skol(372 Ste-Catherine West)

  • Building: step-free access via elevator (to the left in main floor hallway)
  • Washrooms: wheelchair accessible washrooms available on 1st and 4th floors. Gender neutral signs will be placed on all washrooms for event.
  • Event will likely be crowded; Interaction Signal Badges will be available.
  • Harm Reduction Squad will be present.
  • Music: Karaoke followed by live DJ; potential for loud volume, especially later on at night.
  • Event is drinking-optional; BYOB. No alcohol will be available for purchase.
  • Closest metro station: Place-des-Arts, McGill

Thursday, September 1st
