Funding
QPIRG McGill funds action-oriented research that supports our mandate of social justice and environmental activism. We provide several avenues for securing funding and support, enabling a diversity of groups and actors to participate.
Discretionary Fund
PLEASE NOTE: Our Discresh Quick Form (to the right) is not working right now, please go to the discretionary fund page to fill your applications.
QPIRG McGill’s Board of Directors sets aside an annual budget exclusively for funding smaller-scale, non-institutional, external projects. Campus and community groups are encouraged to apply to this discretionary fund when planning any goal-oriented social justice or environmental event. Applicants who fit our mandate can expect between 0$ – 150$, as we must often split the fund between half a dozen projects.
Priority is given to projects unlikely to receive funding from mainstream sources, such as McGill University, the Federal Government, the National Film Board, et al.
QPIRG McGill’s Discretionary Fund is disbursed once every 2-3 weeks. Learn more and apply online.
Working Groups
Once a year, we call for and select a new batch of working groups. These are student-led projects and organisations who require longterm, stable funding, in order to engage broad issues of vital importance. Working Groups also receive dedicated use of the office for organising and holding meetings, computer and photocopier use, and holding events.
All working groups receive their status for no more than one year at a time. You must re-apply to maintain your status.
Working Groups also have responsibilities to participate in QPIRG McGill’s programming and organisation. For instance, all working groups are invited to participate in QPIRG McGill’s annual Working Group Film Festival, which will screen challenging films that highlight the issues our working groups are tackling. Working Groups must also participate in the Annual General Meeting, Open House, and other events.
If this sounds right for your project or organisation, please apply for working group status. Deadline for 2011 is September 23rd, 2011.
Events Co-Sponsorship
QPIRG McGill can support your event through a Co-Sponsorship arrangement. When QPIRG McGill co-sponsors an event, we do more than provide funding. Events selected for co-sponsorship are exciting and relevent to the organisation’s current goals. Our staff will dedicate time to helping organise the event, and we will help in event promotion as well. This is a more intimate process than receiving discretionary funding, and we can also provide greater amounts of funding to your co-sponsored event.
Let us know that you are interested in co-sponsorship today.
