Discretionary Fund
Each year QPIRG’s Board of Directors sets aside an amount of money to fund external projects. Campus and community groups are encouraged to apply to this discretionary fund when planning any goal-oriented social justice or environmental event. The maximum for any one request is $250.00. If your project is quite wide in scope and will require long-term, sustained resources, you might consider applying for working group status.
Funding preference is given to activities which:
- Are not otherwise addressed by QPIRG-McGill, its working groups, and programs.
- Affect the McGill community, the Montreal community, and/or the community of the province of Quebec.
- Promote QPIRG-McGill\’s mandate of research, education, and action, which are defined as…
- Research: conduct and/or distribution of research that is not otherwise affiliated with/funded by an institution (university, government…)
- Education: organization of public lectures, conferences, educational series…
- Action: initiatives such as public demonstrations, teach-ins, lobbying, and campaigns.
Non-monetary aid
In addition to cash, QPIRG can offer use of our office and office resources such as our photocopier, Mac computers, fax machine, phones, resource centre, etc., as well as the assistance of our staff. Be sure to specifically ask for these resources in your application if you need them.
What you can do for us
In return, QPIRG requests that our logo appear on publicity materials or media coverage, if applicable, as well as copies of these so we can tell our members. We would also appreciate a brief (1-page) report of the event or project when it is completed.
Selection Process
Your application will be reviewed by the Board of Directors, which meets at least twice a month. Please submit your application at least five working days prior to the next scheduled meeting and at least three weeks prior to the time that you will need the funding.
