We’re Hiring a Chief Electoral Officer!

The Quebec Public Interest Research Group at McGill University (QPIRG-McGill) is a student-funded non-profit organization that conducts research, education, and action on a variety of social justice and environmental issues at McGill and in the Montreal community.

Job Description

The Chief Electoral Officer, appointed by the Board of Directors of the Quebec Public Interest Research Group-McGill (QPIRG-McGill), shall be responsible for the general conduct and execution of QPIRG-McGill Referenda and shall fulfill these duties with all due diligence and impartiality.

The CEO and the Deputy Electoral Officer (hereinafter “DEO”) shall be advised by the Board of Directors of QPIRG-McGill.

The Deputy Electoral Officer assumes their duties only in the case of the extended absence or removal from office of the Chief Electoral Officer.

– The Chief Elections Officer (CEO) shall oversee the operations of Elections QPIRG-McGill and shall be responsible for administering QPIRG-McGill referenda.

– In addition to the duties laid out in the QPIRG-McGill Policy and Bylaws, the CEO is responsible for ensuring that the DEO abides by the rules and guidelines governing referenda, and does not contravene the ByLaws or Policies of QPIRG-McGill.

– The CEO appointed by the QPIRG-McGill shall be responsible for the general conduct and execution of referenda and shall fulfill these duties with all due diligence and impartiality.

– The CEO shall act impartially for the organization.

– At the Board of Director’s request, the CEO shall report to the Board of Directors on any matters pertaining to referenda and their conduct.


The CEO and DEO may NOT be members of:

– QPIRG-McGill Board of Directors (past and present)

– Working groups or committees of QPIRG-McGill (past and present)

– Employees of QPIRG-McGill (past and present)


– Diligence and impartiality in execution of duties.

– Ability to work diligently under pressure.

– Good planning, organization and communications skills.

– Good communication skills both in English and French is desirable.
