SUMMARY:Police Free Schools: Safety on Campus Beyond Carceral Systems
DESCRIPTION:Police Free Schools: Safety on Campus Beyond Carceral Systems\nThis workshop will be a 101 session on abolition as it relates to education\, security culture at McGill and how it can be challenged (including the recent mobilization around Palestinian activism)\, police-free schools organizing across Turtle Island (what’s worked for organizers?)\, and an invitation to imagine what campus would look like without campus security/police and carceral/punitive measures in curriculum/teaching. \nThis workshop will be facilitated by Blain Haile and Attou Mamat\, two of École Sans Police organizers. ESP is a group of organizers dedicated to removing police from education. In the Radfrosh Know Your Rights workshop\, run by the office of the VP University Affairs at SSMU\, become an expert in your rights as a student: academically\, personally\, and even when you’re disrupting university activities. \nLearn what you’re entitled to and how to fight for it. And if McGill tries to punish you for campus activism\, you’ve got rights there\, too! \nFight bureaucracy with bureaucracy and dive into the shadowy world of grievances\, the charter of student rights\, Quebec law\, and playing along to a fucked-up rule book\, in this hour long workshop.
