SUMMARY:Panel on Migrant Justice
DESCRIPTION:Panel on Migrant Justice\nJoin us for an in-depth and important discussion on migrant justice\, led by organizers working with speakers from Centre d’aide aux familles latino-américaines (CAFLA)\, the Immigrant Workers Centre (IWC-CTI)\, and the Migrant Justice Clinic (CJM). This event will explore the lived realities of migrants navigating a province shaped by colonial borders\, systemic racism\, and increasingly hostile immigration policies. \nThe panel will begin with an introduction to the speakers and their organizations\, offering insight into the work being done on the ground. The heart of the conversation will center on critical questions such as: How are migrant communities organizing in the face of structural barriers? What challenges do they face? And how are state policies\, such as Bill C-2 and growing anti-migrant rhetoric\, impacting their everyday lives? \nWe will explore intersections between migrant justice and other social movements\, asking how solidarity can be built across struggles for Indigenous sovereignty\, workers’ rights\, climate justice\, and more. \nWhether you are a long-time ally or just beginning to learn about these issues\, this is a space to listen\, ask questions\, and reflect on what it means to be in true solidarity with the migrant community. \nAbout the speakers: \nGuarav Sharma (IWC-CTI) \nSince 1997\, Gaurav Sharma has been a driving force in Chandigarh theatre (India)\, using his artistry to advocate for women’s empowerment\, labor issues and social change. His extensive portfolio includes directing plays and films that shed light on pressing social issues\, including the Punjabi opera Yaddan/Memories (Sala Rossa\, 2024) and the revolutionary play\, Ram Mohammad Singh Azad/Celebration of Independence of India (Sala Rossa\, 2025). With the Immigrant Workers Centre\, Sharma performs street theatre and workshop leadership on labor rights issues in Parc Extension\, in particular the South Asian community. He has been a worker at Dollarama warehouse\, and a key player in the IWC’S Dollarama warehouse campaigns. \nThere will be a free dinner served after the event! Catering provided by Les Filles Fattoush. \nWednesday\, October 22nd\, 6-8pm \nCentre St-Pierre (1212 rue Panet) \nAccessibility: \nCentre St-Pierre is wheelchair accessible.
