SUMMARY:Film Screening - Off Frame: Revolution Until Victory by Mohanad Yaqubi
DESCRIPTION:Off Frame: Revolution Until Victory by Mohanad Yaqubi\nJoin us Sunday\, August 25th at 8pm for a Palestinian film screening of Off Frame: Revolution Until Victory by Mohanad Yaqubi. We explore themes of resistance\, nationhood and national liberation; themes that have been especially relevant for the past 10-months\, but also 76 years. As we place ourselves in the context of deliberate erasure and ethnic cleansing at the hands of the Zionist regime\, these films become a way for us to forcefully engage with the past and history of the Palestinian people despite attempts to hide it and bury it. \nSunday\, August 25th at 8pm \nLe Frigo Vert (1440 rue Mackay) \nThe event will be in collaboration with SPHR McGill and Cinema Politica! \nPurchase your full or flex tickets for Rad Frosh 2024 here to join this amazing workshop among other events which will through community learning and bonds\, free our minds!

SUMMARY:Community Dinner and PAC Zine Night
DESCRIPTION:Community Dinner and PAC Zine Night\nRegister to attend this event here. \nJoin us for a free community dinner and an evening of zine-making with the Pan-Asian Collective (PAC)! Vegan meals will be provided by Midnight Kitchen and People’s Potato. \nFor this year’s Spring into Action 2024 theme\, “Outrage\,” PAC is excited to host a Community Zine Night to provide a safe space for channeling anger and despair into tangible forms with the presence of our community. Although direct action is one of the most important ways we can respond to crises\, this event is instead focused on building mental and emotional capacity through creating tangible creative arts – in this case\, in the form of a Zine. Our goal is to create a needed space for our community to express ourselves safely within an intentionally curated environment and the presence of like-minded people. \nThe Pan Asian Collective is a QPIRG-McGill and QPIRG-Concordia working group. Throughout the year\, we host various events including a book club\, potlucks\, picnics\, film screenings\, discussion groups\, and an arts market with focus on Pan-Asian community engagement and education. The collective’s principles are rooted in leftist politics that center abolition and solidarity across global Indigenous struggles against colonialism\, capitalism\, and white supremacy – we welcome all Asian-identified folks who share our values to join us! \nDate and time: Friday\, March 22nd at 6pm\n \nLocation: 3480 rue McTavish\, Student Lounge (1st floor\, to the left of the main entrance) \nAccessibility: \nThe SSMU building at 3480 rue McTavish is wheelchair accessible. There are gender-neutral accessible bathrooms on the first floor. \nThis event is part of Spring into Action 2024: OUTRAGE. SUMMARY:Prison Abolition 101
DESCRIPTION:Prison Abolition 101\nJoin us for a workshop that offers community members an introduction to prisoner solidarity work and prison abolition\, as well as an introduction to the Prisoner Correspondence Project and our role in the abolitionist movement. Centering the lived experiences of the project’s imprisoned 2SLGBTQ+ members\, this workshop will look at the systematic violence of prisons\, both on an individual and structural level; explore the differences between reform versus abolition; and investigate some of the ways that we as individuals\, organizations and movements can work towards abolition. We hope that this presentation will be of interest to people who are new to the concept of prison abolition\, and to those who are familiar with it but are looking for concrete ways to get involved in abolitionist work. Given the scope of our project\, our workshop will emphasize prison abolition as it intersects with queer activism\, but we of course welcome community members of all identities to attend. \nThe Prisoner Correspondence Project is a solidarity project for gay\, lesbian\, transsexual\, transgender\, gendervariant\, two-spirit\, intersex\, bisexual and queer prisoners in Canada and the United States\, linking them with people a part of these same communities outside of prison. \nDate and time: Tuesday\, March 19th at 7pm \nLocation: QPIRG-Concordia (2100 rue Guy\, room #205) \nThis event is part of Spring into Action 2024: OUTRAGE. SUMMARY:Penning Community Almanacs for The Future: Persisting and Resisting Corporate Climate Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Penning Community Almanacs for The Future\nPersisting and Resisting Corporate Climate Crisis\nDate and time: Friday\, March 15th from 2-4pm\n \nLocation: Frigo Vert (1440 rue Mackay) \nThis workshop is inspired by the Earthbound Farmer’s Almanac (to be discussed in the workshop) which is described as follows: “This is a farmer’s almanac for the end of a world and the beginning of many others/ It’s a place for experimentation\, for finding new forms and retrofitting old ones\, for sharing stories of lived efforts toward a collective exit from this colonial nightmare\, this separateness from the Earth.” Creating almanacs for these times – building on past practices of almanacs but for the current conditions that climate crisis brings up – is the making of experimental space for connection engaging deeply with life on earth (including the stars) while resisting the systems at the root of suffering. The goal of this workshop is to offer a potential tool for persisting and resisting climate crisis both personally and collectively. This workshop will include a presentation\, an almanac journal collage and art activity\, guided group discussion\, and skillsharing. \nThis workshop is hosted by Pamela Fillion\, a community herbalist and radical home ec educator who has been involved in social and environmental justice in Montreal for over 16 years. \nThis event is part of Spring into Action 2024: OUTRAGE. SUMMARY:Picnic in the Park!
DESCRIPTION:Picnic in the Park!\nwith GRIP-UQAM\, QPIRG-Concordia\, and QPIRG-McGill\n \nHappy summer aka picnic season! \nWe are planning a picnic for all our Working Groups and any other community members/orgs/friends that are interested. The picnic will be held Saturday July 15th\, 14h00 – 19h00 @ Jarry Parc. \nSchedule: We want to take this opportunity to hear from our Working Groups about what you awesome folks have been working on\, make connections between our working groups\, and build up our collective community knowledge :). Also very importantly\, we want to eat\, chill out\, and have fun! \nStarting at 14h00\, we will have each working group do a quick introduction and present any ongoing campaigns/work they are doing. Then we will have a chance to share and learn from each other through a discussion around organizing in our changed/changing external reality (what challenges are we seeing in mobilizing and engaging folx\, what’s worked for groups\, how can we meet safely\, etc) \nAfterwards\, it will be a lot of fun in the sun! Chatting and mingling with lots of rad people! \nWorking Groups: We would really love it if you could join us! And if you could arrive at 14h00 so we get to hear from all the working groups\, that would be amazing! \nFood: We will provide food! It will be bbq food with vegan and gf options provided. \nRendezvous: We will meet beside the swimming pool in Park Jarry \nRSVP: Since we are providing food\, RSVPs would be amazing! Again\, the attendance of all of our Working Groups would be fantastic\, and all are welcome. If you know for sure you are coming (and how many are coming with you)\, please let us know ahead of time so we make sure we can plan appropriately. \nWe are hoping that this is going to be a fun day of connection\, delicious food\, and new + old friends! If you have any questions\, concerns\, or would like to RSVP\, please email us back at info@qpirgconcordia.org.  . \nSee you there! \nQPIRG/GRIP Concordia\, McGill & UQAM
