SUMMARY:Spring into Action call for submissions: OUTRAGE
DESCRIPTION:Spring into Action 2024: OUTRAGE\nCall for Submissions\nSubmit an event proposal for Spring into Action! \nWe are seeking proposals for workshops\, performances\, film screenings\, or social events for our annual event series in the spring\, which is tentatively taking place from March 11th to 22nd. \nThe theme of Spring into Action 2024 is “Outrage” and how we can act on it. Anger and despair in the face of crisis can feel immobilizing and demoralizing\, whether we are confronted with smaller scale interpersonal conflicts\, housing and food crises\, or colonialism\, imperialism\, and injustice. Our event series this year seeks to explore a variety of responses to crises\, including harm reduction and de-escalation\, practical protest skills\, capacity building\, fostering community resilience\, mobilizing through direct action\, and more! \nSubmit your proposal using the form linked here: forms.gle/EpUwaRoguwL1CRfLA \nDeadline to submit proposals: January 12\, 2024 \nWe will be giving out stipends for all the event proposals that are selected. For more information\, email us at info@qpirgmcgill.org. \nSpring into Action is an annual event series that is organized and funded by QPIRG-McGill and the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU). Every spring\, QPIRG organizes a week of workshops\, discussions\, film screenings\, and social events engaging local and global issues. Spring into Action testifies to the diversity of critical political engagement on the McGill campus\, and offers students concrete opportunities to get involved in their community.

SUMMARY:Anti-Colonial Week: The Kairos Blanket Exercise
DESCRIPTION:Anti-Colonial Week: The Kairos Blanket Exercise\nThis event is FREE. Register at the link here to guarantee your spot. \nCo-organized by QPIRG McGill\, QPIRG Concordia\, GRIP UQAM\, and Le Frigo Vert \nDate: Jan 24th at 6pm \nLocation: QPIRG Concordia (2100 Rue Guy\, #205) \nIn 1996\, the Aboriginal Rights Coalition worked with Indigenous elders\, Knowledge Keepers\, and educators to develop an interactive way of learning the history most Canadians are never taught. The KAIROS Blanket Exercise was the result; an interactive and experiential teaching tool that explores the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in so called Canada. It has since been offered thousands of times and the fourth edition was released in 2016. \nDuring this 2 to 3-hour workshop\, participants step on blankets representing the land and into the role of First Nations\, Inuit and Métis peoples. They are guided by trained facilitators\, including Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers\, who work from a script that covers pre-contact\, treaty-making\, colonization\, resistance and much more. Participants read scrolls and respond to cues in the script. The KBE concludes with a debriefing\, conducted as a talking circle\, during which participants discuss the learning experience\, process their feelings\, ask questions\, share insights\, and deepen their understanding. \nAccessibility \nQPIRG-Concordia has two entrances. The entrance at 2100 Guy has one flight of stairs.\nFor step-free access\, use the entrance at 1625 de Maisonneuve Ouest.\nBuzz #0205 to be let through the automatic doors\, then take the elevator up to the second floor. The door to our space can be opened by automated button\, and swings out.\nThere is a paid parking lot beside our building\, entrance on Guy. \nAbout Anti-Colonial Week \nJoin us for Anti-Colonial Week\, a grassroots initiative that’s been evolving since its humble beginnings as the Anti-Colonial Dinner in 2015. Now\, in 2024\, it’s a week-long exploration of food\, film\, and resistance. Created for Concordia students and the wider community\, this event is all about education and awareness\, digging into the real impacts of colonization on communities and weaving connections with social and environmental movements.\nThis year’s lineup includes From Palette to Plate\, a hands-on food/art workshop\, The KAIROS Blanket Exercise for a profound historical experience\, and Plantcestors\, a workshop on plants and herbs. Immerse yourself in films\, engage with speakers\, and participate in workshops that unpack the realities of colonization. It’s not just a week – it’s a movement!
