SUMMARY:My Puzzle is Your Sound: Field Recording
DESCRIPTION:My Puzzle is Your Sound: Field Recording with Joey Zaurrini\n \nWe spend our days and nights immersed in the soundscapes of our environments. All too often\, this rich tapestry of sensory information goes unnoticed and forgotten unless the sounds are particularly disruptive. In this workshop\, we will learn to use active listening and field recording as grounding tools that connect us to our bodies and open acoustic portals into everyday environments. The workshop will include guided soundwalks\, listening exercises\, field recording ventures\, journaling and sharing with the group. Borrowing from Hildegard Westerkamp’s words\, we will use the recorder as an extension of the ear\, capturing sounds to then investigate and listen to together. During the workshop\, participants will be taught active listening techniques and methods of expressing these listening experiences through the creation of soundmaps. This will serve as an introduction into the practice of field recording and the mindfulness benefits that can be obtained from it. \nThe workshop will be a single session with a duration of 2 hours. The maximum participant capacity is 5 as there are limited recorders available. To register\, email info@qpirgmcgill.org. \nJoey Zaurrini is an artist whose mediums span from paint to sound. He studied Electroacoustics at Concordia University and went on to Simon Fraser University to complete an MFA in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts\, where he created an online interactive sound map\, Tales From the Square\, as his graduating project. He is passionate about creating accessible and engaging workshops for everyone to learn about field recording. \nAccessibility \n\nUnfortunately\, the space at 3516 Av du Parc is not currently wheelchair accessible.\nThere is a single-stall\, non-gendered bathroom\n\nMon casse-tête est votre son : Enregistrement sur le terrain avec Joey Zaurrini\nNous passons nos jours et nos nuits immergés dans les paysages sonores de notre environnement. Trop souvent\, cette riche tapisserie d’informations sensorielles passe inaperçue et elle est trop vite oubliée\, sauf si les sons sont particulièrement perturbants. Dans cet atelier\, nous apprendrons à utiliser l’écoute active et l’enregistrement sur le terrain comme des outils d’ancrage qui nous relient à nos corps et ouvrent des portails acoustiques dans les environnements quotidiens. L’atelier comprendra des promenades sonores guidées\, des exercices d’écoute\, des enregistrements sur le terrain\, un journal et une session de partage en groupe. En empruntant les mots de Hildegard Westerkamp\, nous utiliserons l’enregistreur comme une extension de l’oreille\, capturant les sons pour ensuite les étudier et les écouter ensemble. Au cours de l’atelier\, les participant.e.s apprendront des techniques d’écoute active et des méthodes pour exprimer ces expériences d’écoute par la création de cartes sonores. Il s’agira d’une introduction à la pratique de l’enregistrement sur le terrain et aux bénéfices de la pleine conscience qui peuvent en découler. \nL’atelier sera une session unique d’une durée de 2 heures. La capacité maximale de participants est de 5 personnes car le nombre d’enregistreurs disponibles est limité.
