SUMMARY:Security Culture Sharing Circle
DESCRIPTION:Security Culture Sharing Circle\n \nMarch 16th\, 3-4:30pm at ECOLE (3559 rue University) \nThis event will serve as an informal sharing of knowledge regarding security culture\, aiming to help fellow organizers maintain their safety in both digital and physical spaces. We will discuss online security\, including platforms for secure organizing. We will also discuss best practices for safe(r) direct action\, such as police liasoning. The event will be structured with facilitator(s) presenting some background and basic information\, and then opening up discussion for folks to share their experiences and ask questions. \nMembers from Divest McGill (@divestmcgill) will lead the event. Divest is a student-led campaign that advocates for McGill to divest from fossil fuels and for the democratization of the University\, as well as working to create an active anti-capitalist\, anti-colonial space on campus. \nThis event is part of our week-long event series\, Spring into Action\, which will take place from March 10-22. Stay tuned as we post more events this week! Visit qpirgmcgill.org/spring-into-action to learn more! \nAccessibility \n\nWe regret to note that ECOLE is not wheelchair accessible. The front entrance is four steps up and has two heavy doors with a buzzer system.\nMost of the doors in the building are heavy\, including washroom doors. All washrooms are single-use and non-gendered. There are unfortunately no handrails next to the toilets or sinks.\nAll rooms have fluorescent lighting\, though during the day many rooms can be lit with natural light through large windows.\nWe cannot guarantee that ECOLE is a scent-free space.

SUMMARY:The KAIROS Blanket Exercise
DESCRIPTION:The KAIROS Blanket Exercise\n \nIn 1996\, the Aboriginal Rights Coalition worked with Indigenous elders\, Knowledge Keepers\, and educators to develop an interactive way of learning the history most Canadians are never taught. The KAIROS Blanket Exercise was the result; an interactive and experiential teaching tool that explores the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in so called Canada. It has since been offered thousands of times and the fourth edition was released in 2016. \nDuring this 2 to 3-hour workshop\, participants step on blankets representing the land and into the role of First Nations\, Inuit and Métis peoples. They are guided by trained facilitators\, including Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers\, who work from a script that covers pre-contact\, treaty-making\, colonization\, resistance and much more.
