Decolonizing Healing & Medicine, Re-imagining Community Care<\/h3>\n

From mental health crises to COVID-19 and chronic illnesses– capitalism\/ colonialism are making us all sick in different ways and destroying the\u00a0planet at large. We’ve been taught to think about our health & wellbeing in a vacuum. Our health is tied to the health of our community, the land, flora, fauna & every part of our ecosystems. We’re part of nature, not separate from it. How do we address our distress through a political, collectivist lens and step away from individualistic, pathologizing, colonial, profit-driven models of “healing”? What do we need to truly be healthy and how can we build those networks of interdependence\u00a0& mutual care? How can we take care of the land so it may care for us?<\/p>\n

Join us for a discussion with Dr. Ayesha Khan (@wokescientist) on decolonizing healing & medicine, and re-imagining community care.<\/p>\n

March 10, 5pm-7pm with hybrid option on Zoom. The keynote will be live streamed in person in Room 150 of the McGill Arts Building (853 Sherbrooke Ouest).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Des crises de sant\u00e9 mentale aux maladies chroniques en passant par le COVID-19, le capitalisme et le colonialisme nous rendent toustes malades de diff\u00e9rentes mani\u00e8res et d\u00e9truisent la plan\u00e8te en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. On nous a appris.e.s \u00e0 penser \u00e0 notre sant\u00e9 et \u00e0 notre bien-\u00eatre mental comme deux ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes distincts. Notre sant\u00e9 est pourtant li\u00e9e \u00e0 la sant\u00e9 de notre communaut\u00e9, de la terre, de la flore, de la faune et de chaque partie de nos \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes. Nous faisons partie de la nature, nous n’en sommes pas s\u00e9par\u00e9.e.s. Comment aborder notre d\u00e9tresse \u00e0 travers un prisme politique et collectiviste et s’\u00e9loigner des mod\u00e8les de gu\u00e9rison individualistes, pathologistes, coloniaux et ax\u00e9s sur le profit ? De quoi avons-nous besoin pour \u00eatre vraiment en bonne sant\u00e9 et comment pouvons-nous construire ces r\u00e9seaux d’interd\u00e9pendance et de soins mutuels ? Comment pouvons-nous prendre soin de la terre pour qu’elle puisse prendre soin de nous ?<\/span><\/p>\n
