Border Memories (Mémoires de la frontière)

October 27 @ 6:00 pm–8:00 pm EDT

October 27, 6-8pm
Critical Media Lab (3460 rue McTavish #108)

The “Border Memories” (*Mémoires de la frontière*) project, led by a committee within the Solidarity Across Borders (SAB) collective, aims to give a voice to undocumented individuals through the creation of autobiographical video shorts.

Members of Solidarity Across Borders will present both the project and the collective, followed by a screening of the short videos filmed over the past year. The evening will conclude with a discussion session exploring the themes raised in the videos—such as exile, migration journeys, the experience of arriving and living in Quebec, racism, among others.

Beyond sharing stories for the purpose of popular education through screenings and discussions, the project seeks to archive oral histories to ensure they are not lost. It aims to immortalize marginalized narratives—stories deliberately rendered invisible in the public sphere—in order to reclaim the narrative and the public perception imposed upon migrants and those without legal status, a control of which they have been stripped for political ends. These filmed testimonies will allow individuals to speak about their journeys, challenges, and hopes, while humanizing their experiences.

Accessibility:
The Critical Media Lab is located in Peterson Hall, which is wheelchair accessible.
