Radical Walking Tour

The Radical Walking Tour of Milton Parc presents a critical and nuanced historical presentation to the neighbourhood sites. The tour includes a visit to notable sites on McGill’s campus, focusing on the history of James McGill’s abuse and enslavement of First Nations and Indigenous residents of Tiohtià:ke and the ongoing fight of the Kanistensera to secure justice regarding the Royal Vic project. Similarly, the walking tour would rotate between a series of stations where different local organizations will present about their ongoing projects, and talk about the history of the area.

If you are interested in learning more about the amazing variety of projects and community groups in the milton parc area, and would like to learn more about the activist history of the neighbourhood, this tour is for you! Even you are familiar with the area, the tour provides historical context of notable sites that you may be new to you. For instance, did you the know the federation of co-ops in Milton-Parc consists of 22 different housing co-ops and non-profits, with 133 buildings and 645 apartments, housing a total population of about 1,500. This event is part of Culture Shock 2024! Culture Shock is an annual event series on anti-racism, migrant justice, and Indigenous solidarity. It seeks to bring together racialized communities to discuss issues relevant to their lives, as well as to allow those who do not belong to these communities to learn more about struggles against racism, colonialism and border violence. Every year, QPIRG brings panels, workshops, film screenings, performance nights and fundraiser parties to McGill students and broader Montreal communities.
