QPIRG-McGill strives to be an inclusive and non-hierarchical organization, meaning all of those involved in activities are committed to working together and reaching consensus. The Board of Directors, the staff, and the volunteers work together to run our programming.

QPIRG-McGill is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, which is responsible for QPIRG management, budgeting, project development, staff, working groups and the development of the group’s political vision. Every year, students and community members are elected at the Annual General Meeting open to all QPIRG members. In addition, the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU) and the Post-Graduate Students’ Society (PGSS) each have one representative on the Board.

The Conflict Resolution and Complaints Committee (CRCC) reviews complaints entailing decisions made by the QPIRG Board or Staff, or any other internal disputes, which cannot otherwise be resolved. QPIRG-McGill has three core staff members: an Outreach and Promotions Coordinator, a Finance and Administration Coordinator, and a Research and Working Groups Coordinator. These staff coordinate the day-to-day operations of the organization. The QPIRG staff work hard to ensure reliability, continuity and skill sharing within the organization. In addition to daily operations, the staff is responsible for programming, finances, outreach, working groups, programs, coordinating resources, volunteers, projects, grant research, and policy development among many other things. QPIRG also has three part-time staff, hired through the work study program: the Resource Centre Coordinator, the CURE Coordinator, and the Campus Outreach Coordinator. Over the summer, QPIRG also employs a School Schmool Coordinator and two Rad Frosh coordinators through Young Canada Works.

QPIRG could not function without our many volunteers! Volunteers help run committees such as the Popular Education Committee, the Radical Research Committee, the Outreach Committee, the Accessibility Committee, the Library Collective and more. Volunteers are an integral part of Rad Frosh and the publication of annual projects such as School Schmool (social-justice oriented resource guide & agenda) and Convergence (journal of undergraduate and community research).

At the core of QPIRG’s direct action work are our working groups. These are autonomous organisations and collectives, made up of students and community members, who undertake action and research into issues at the core of QPIRG McGill’s mandate.

QPIRG is funded by student fees and could not exist without them! All McGill undergraduate and graduate students are automatic members of QPIRG, unless they choose to opt out of the fee. This means all students are welcome to use our services, attend events, volunteer, or apply to work with us. Find out how you can get more involved here.
