True North – Film Screening

Join us on Friday, August 28th for a screening of Michèle Stephenson’s 2025 feature documentary “True North”!

The film chronicles the history of Black people in Canada with a focus on the period of Resistance in the 1960s. Showcasing rare audio and visual footage of the 1968 Black Writers Congress that took place here at McGill University and the ensuing 1969 Occupation of Sir George Williams Campus (now Concordia University). Contextualizing these events within a broader global Black Liberation movement, the documentary seeks to disprove claims that Canada, historically and presently, does not have a racism problem.
