Bourses de recherche d'été

QPIRG -McGill’s summer research stipends are intended to provide individuals or groups with a budget/honoraria to work over the summer (June-August), doing research leading towards action and change within the Montreal community. We will be funding two research projects this summer, and will allocate a $4000 stipend to each project. We encourage all interested groups or individuals to apply!

Applications are open until May 17, 2026!

How to Apply

To apply, email your application to carl@qpirgmcgill.org. The application should be submitted in PDF format & should include:

  1. A letter of introduction that outlines the objectives of the project, the needs it addresses, and how it fulfills the above criteria. (MAX: 2 pages, ideally in PDF format)
  2. A CV of the main coordinators, or group, including the contact information of two references
  3. A timeline of your project, with clear goals for each month as well as any follow-up work to occur throughout the Fall and Winter
  4.  A budget of estimated expenses for the project (i.e. long distance calls, material purchases, travel, printing, etc.). Your budget is meant to cover both project expenses and a honorarium for the researchers. Applicants may use the entire amount of the stipend as a honorarium should they not foresee other ancillary costs. Your budget can be formatted like cet example.

Please note: QPIRG-McGill will be funding two research projects this summer, and will allocate $4000 to each project. Please ensure that your budget is within this range, and include information about any expected funding from other sources.

Les candidat-e-s retenu-e-s auront convaincu le comité de sélection que :

  • The project fits into QPIRG mandate to promote social and environmental justice, and operates on principles of anti-oppression;
  • The project takes direction from communities directly impacted by the subject being researched;
  • The project is local in scope and fits into a grassroots model;
  • The project addresses a gap in the community and has long-term viability;
  • Le candidat ou (la) candidate a l’expérience nécessaire pour entreprendre le projet et le compléter dans les délais tels que proposés (juin-août)
  • À noter : les projets ayant des objectifs à long terme en termes d'action ou de campagne ou d'applicabilité à d'autres projets et campagnes seront priorisés.
Examples of past summer research stipends
  • Création d'un blog sur la sexualité et le handicap au Québec, comprenant des articles, des interviews, des informations et des ressources sur le sexe
  • Création d'un projet artistique de radio documentant les histoires des personnes noires qui ont été incarcérées au Canada
  • Élaboration d'un guide de ressources conçu pour fournir une formation accessible et anti-oppressive en matière de santé mentale aux jeunes de 16 à 25 ans
  • Production d'un film documentaire sur le Programme des aides familiaux résidants (LCP).
  • Organisation d'une visite guidée bilingue du quartier sud-ouest de Montréal qui visait à faire ressortir l'histoire des luttes et des combats actuels contre l'embourgeoisement.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • Compléter le projet de recherche comme indiqué dans la soumission initiale. Des changements majeurs au projet doivent être approuvés par le Conseil Administratif ou le personnel du GRIP-McGill
  • Créer, avec le coordinateur des finances du GRIP, un plan décrivant la méthode de paiement pour la bourse. (À noter : c’est de la responsabilité des postulantes en groupe de diviser la bourse entre les membres)
  • Établir des rencontres avec les membres du personnel ou membres du CA au moins une fois par mois pendant l’été pour faire des mises à jour à propos du déroulement du projet ou pour toute forme de soutien requis
  • Présenter au moins deux rapports au conseil d’administration du GRIP pendant l’été
  • Produire un rapport final du projet comprenant un résumé du travail fait
  • Transmettre une copie de tout matériel produit au GRIP à la fin du projet
  • Consider presenting the research at a QPIRG-McGill event in the future (such as: Rad Frosh, Culture Shock, Spring Into Action or otherwise!);
  • Present the project at QPIRG’s Annual General Meeting in April 2027;
  • Reconnaître la contribution de GRIP-McGill sur tout matériel promotionnel relié au projet
