PANEL: History & Current Struggles in Prisons in Canada

August 5 @ 6:00 pm8:00 pm EDT

Prisoners’ Justice Day is an annual day memorializing the people who have died in prison the previous year; this tradition started in Millhaven prison (Bath, ON) in 1975, with 11 demands, including the right to meaningful work with fair wages, to vote, to open visits and correspondence, and more.

Since then, Prisoners’ Justice Day has spread across the country. This panel will introduce folks who are interested in building solidarity with incarcerated people to the past and present of prisoner justice in so-called Canada, starting from people who were at Millhaven in 1975, all the way to the contemporary struggles of incarcerated people.
