This workshop will be a 101 session on abolition as it relates to education, security culture at McGill and how it can be challenged (including the recent mobilization around Palestinian activism), police-free schools organizing across Turtle Island (what’s worked for organizers?), and an invitation to imagine what campus would look like without campus security/police and carceral/punitive measures in curriculum/teaching.
This workshop will be facilitated by Blain Haile and Attou Mamat, two of École Sans Police organizers. ESP is a group of organizers dedicated to removing police from education. They are abolitionist organizers who believe that there is no room for carceral or punitive systems at any level of education.
